Dog Doors
Flap, insulated, wall, screen, patio and electronic doors, compared on flap size, insulation, install and selective entry.
Start with the flap size: it should clear your dog's shoulder by an inch or two and be wide enough for the chest. Then pick the install: door-mounted flaps need a cut door, wall doors need a wall cut and a tunnel, and patio inserts fit a sliding door track with no cutting.
Basic flaps let any animal through. Collar-key, microchip and app-connected doors open only for your pets, and powered doors use a solid panel that is harder to push open.

Flap size
Measure shoulder height and chest width; check the step-over height for older dogs.
Climate
Two or three flaps and magnetic seals keep drafts out in cold or hot regions.
Install
Renters usually want patio or screen inserts; homeowners can cut doors or walls.
