Why it matters
The 12 L hopper holds about 50 cups for dogs over 50 lb, and the dispenser handles kibble up to 20 mm. The Smart Life app schedules meals and portions over 2.4 or 5 GHz Wi-Fi. A 1080p camera with night vision and two-way audio lets you watch meals. Two-year warranty.
Who it's for, and who should skip it
Good fit if
- Large dogs
- Big kibble
- Remote monitoring
Look elsewhere if
- Long absences without a sitter
- Wet food (unless supported)
- Dogs that break into hoppers
Pros and cons
Pros
- Camera
- Dual-band Wi-Fi
- Large kibble
Cons
- App-dependent
- Hand clean
- Bulky
Limitations to weigh
- Automatic feeders can jam or lose power; test for a few days before you travel, keep a backup plan, and never leave a dog alone for days with only a feeder.
- Check portions against your dog's feeding guide; 'cups' on feeders are rarely a true 8 oz measuring cup.
